The second wave of Google’s Mobilegeddon is upon us after it’s launch in April of last year. What does this mean for your business and how can you use these changes to your advantage?
The move from desktop to mobile continues and cannot be ignored by any business owner or marketer. Â Last year Google announced that preference will be given to sites that have adapted their design to be mobile friendly. These sites would in future rank higher in a Google search than those that do not comply. Mobile friendly sites are also indicated on the SERP (search engine result page) offering mobile users the opportunity to choose a site relevant to their current usage method.
Google is all about user experience. Taking this into consideration, the second wave of even more stringent algorithms in favour of mobile friendly sites will be deployed in May. According to Klemen Kloboves, software engineer at Google that made the announcement your site will not be affected if you already made the move to a mobile friendly design. If not – now is a good time to make that switch.
What is mobile friendly design?
Mobile friendly design means that your desktop website design has been adapted to be viewed on smaller screens, such as a tablet and smartphone. This makes it possible for a user to browse your site, no matter where they are and when it is convenient to them.
Why would it make a difference?
If we look at some of our clients’ data, mobile users have often doubled over the last two years and some clients’ mobile users currently even exceed the traditional desktop users.
Most people use Google when conducting an online search and currently has a market share of just under 68%, followed by Bing with 13%. If you want to be considered for the SERP’s of the  largest search tool on the web, it would be worthwhile looking into their ranking considerations.
